In the heart of the Poconos Mountains, in northeastern Pennsylvania, the borough of Stroudsburg is the county seat of Monroe County. It was incorporated in 1815, and became the county seat in 1836. The Monroe County Historical Organization is housed in Stroudsburg, in the historical Stroud Mansion, which was built in 1795 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
