Scranton Failure to Yield Accident Lawyer

One important rule to follow when driving is right of way. Right of way refers to who has the legal right to go first on a road. This law is important to remember when approaching intersections, roundabouts, and other traffic situations where other vehicles are involved.

The rules of the road spell out who has the right of way in specific situations. When a driver does not allow traffic to go when they have the right of way, this is called failure to yield.

However, yielding can be tricky. Some drivers are impatient and think they have the right of way when they really don’t. Then there are drivers who don’t take their turn and end up causing confusion at intersections. Other common failure to yield situations involve flashing yellow or red lights, not yielding when turning left, aggressive merging, and failure to yield when entering the street from a private driveway. In these situations, accidents can happen.

Failure to yield can lead to T-bone accidents and other types of crashes can result in serious injuries. Make sure you receive the compensation you deserve. File a claim with help from Needle Law Firm. Schedule a free consultation with a Scranton failure to yield accident lawyer today.

Types of Failure to Yield Accidents

There are five common types of accidents that can happen when a driver fails to yield:

  • Uncontrolled four-way stop. An uncontrolled four-way stop is an intersection in which cars are coming from four directions, with no traffic signals. These intersections are common in low-traffic neighborhoods.
  • Three-way intersections. At a three-way, or T intersection, the driver on the ending road should yield to any cars on the other road. When they fail to do so, this can result in a side impact crash.
  • Turning left. Many left-turn lights are hazardous if drivers don’t yield the right of way. Even when there is a green light allowing for a left turn, the driver may still have to yield to other motorists approaching straight from the other side. Otherwise, an accident can occur.
  • Not stopping at crosswalks. Many drivers fail to stop at crosswalks. This can lead to an accident with a pedestrian if the driver fails to stop.
  • Not stopping at stop signs. It is common for drivers to perform a rolling stop (not fully stop) at stop signs when they think there are no other vehicles or pedestrians around. However, this can cause an accident. If there is another vehicle and they do not see it.
