Almost 50 Children Injured In Pennsylvania School Bus Crash

Schoolbus2

Many people in Pennsylvania may not be aware of the frequency at which school buses crash in the United States. On an almost weekly basis, these vehicles crash and put dozens of children at risk with each accident. A recent crash in Pennsylvania highlights this issue in the clearest terms, with about 50 children becoming hospitalized. Why are so many school buses crashing in Pennsylvania, and what are your legal options as a parent?

Tow Truck Collides Head-On with School Bus

On September 6th of 2023, it was reported that a tow truck had collided head-on with a school bus carrying dozens of children. The crash sent 52 children to the hospital, according to one report. This number was later revised to 49 children and 2 adults. A nearby medical center confirms that they treated 54 patients in connection to the crash. Fortunately, most of the children seem to have been released quickly after receiving treatment. Two remain under evaluation, and a total of four children appear to have suffered moderate injuries.

The crash, which occurred in Luzerne County, was apparently caused by the tow truck driver. This individual seems to have suffered some kind of medical emergency behind the wheel, causing him to swerve into oncoming traffic. It was at this moment that the tow truck struck the school bus. Photos from the aftermath of the crash show serious damage to both vehicles, and the entire front end of the school bus is crumpled.

Similar Crashes Happen Almost Every Day in Pennsylvania

While this incident highlights the risk children face on Pennsylvania roads, the truth is that these incidents are nothing new. Also on September 6th, it was reported that a tractor-trailer had also veered into oncoming traffic, striking numerous vehicles and injuring at least one person. On September 7th, it was reported that parents were setting up a fund for their 9-year-old girl – who had died days prior due to an auto accident.

Can Parents Sue for School Bus Injuries?

If your child has suffered an injury during a school bus crash (or any other auto crash), you may have the opportunity to pursue compensation. If the school bus driver is to blame, you may be able to sue the school district. If a truck caused the accident, you may have the ability to sue the trucking company. For more information, be sure to speak with a qualified attorney.
